How does your research contribute to a better world?

"Cancer is a major cause of death worldwide, and remains one of the most important health problems around the globe. To overcome this, we are in need of more effective and refined ways to diagnose and treat these patients.

In many areas of oncology a paradigm shift has occurred by the use of targeted therapy. Targeted therapy uses drugs or other substances to target specific molecules on the cancer cells. This enables us to more precisely identify and attack cancer cells while sparing normal cells.

In my research, we create and optimize cancer-targeting molecules as tools for molecular radiotherapy. The cancer-targeting drug is used to transport radioactive nuclides to the cancer cells, creating a local and cancer-specific radiotherapy. With this approach, we hope to contribute to improved treatment outcomes and prolonged cancer patient survival in the future."
