Lunch & Innovation Inspiration on 27 September

Ever thought of what it would be like to develop your research findings commercially? Or how working together with industry could benefit your research?

Join us on 27 September to meet two researchers who are committed to creating impact with their research in society. Which paths have they chosen? What have they learned from their experiences and are there any tips and tricks for successful utilisation of research?

Meet professor Helena Danielson whose ability to combine excellent research with business and innovation has rendered her the Uppsala University innovation prize.

Meet professor Peter Bergsten whose extensive experience from collaborating with business and society helps generate novel outlets for academic research.

Combining academic and industrial research and development: Opportunities and synergies

Helena Danielson, Professor in Biochemistry, Department of Chemistry - BMC, and co-founder of Beactica AB
Helena Danielson’s research has focused on developing and using biosensor technologies for drug discovery. A spin-off company from her group’s work, Beactica AB, was founded in 2006. How has she managed to combine excellent research with her engagement in Beactica? How has the development of Beactica benefited the group’s continued academic research? Helena is this year’s recipient of Hjärnäpplet, the university’s prize for outstanding transference of knowledge that has resulted in an innovation.

Refining focus by broadening perspectives

Peter Bergsten, MD, Professor in Medical Cell Biology, Department of Medical Cell Biology
Peter Bergsten is one of Uppsala University’s leading diabetes researchers. In his research focussing on childhood obesity and related type 2 diabetes he invests considerable time also in collaborating with pharma, diagnostic companies and public organisations and decision makers. How have these collaborations benefited the research carried out by his group and what challenges have they faced?
